March 10th Weekly Finds

Weekly Finds logo

Welcome to a new Weekly Finds! Before we hop into this week’s nuggets, can you do me a favor? I’m working on a graduate school project for the end of the semester and need data on what to include in a “dream” Digital Media Lab. Can you go fill out this quick survey? Have your classes fill it out too! Many thanks!

Now, here are this week’s finds:

1. Google Slides Animation

I recently had a conversation with one of our content coordinators about how teachers could spice up their direct instruction lectures and how even using simple animations would make a difference. Over the weekend, I came upon this older bookmarked tip from Tony Vincent that supports our conversation. This graphic shows 3 ideas: how to loop your slides, so they play over and over again, how to create an animated gif, and how to screen record the slides.

2. 7 Types of Rest

We’re in the long stretch before Spring Break and this is the time where emotions and burnout runs high for teachers and students alike. So when I saw this sketchnote TCEA shared on different types of rest, I thought, “there’s someone out there who needs to see this”. Hang in there, everyone!

3. Celebrate and a Question

I love this way to build feedback with students that Tyler Rabin shared:

Ask kids what they want feedback on.

Make sure to check out the comments on this tweet too!

4. Integrate Technology in Powerful Ways

This reel from Holly Clark is SO powerful! If you struggle to integrate technology, just watch…total mic drop moment!

5. Elevate Canvas with Student Annotations

The Canvas Queen is back in my finds with a great video on how to create student annotation assignments in Canvas.

As you’re watching, notice the example assignment she created; it looks teacher created, not a PDF from a textbook or other resource and it’s something that would be pretty easy to replicate for any content area!
