1. Classroom Management Assistance
I like the worksheet above by Holly Painter that makes it feel more like a partnership between you and students when classroom management/discipline issues arise in class. It may not a cure-all, but it will certainly open some doors for communication. There are a lot of great comments too on how to adapt this.
2. Building Discussion
I hated any type of discussion as a student as 1) I was terribly shy, and 2) I didn’t feel like I could express myself the same way as I could through writing. While I can still be quiet as an adult, I know now why discussion skills are so valuable. I do wish I would have been more open to it earlier, but I realized I learned these skills in class, even if I didn’t utilize all of them at the time. So it’s important to allow students to practice discussion skills. They may not use the skills right away, but the seeds get planted…
3. Google Forms for Assessment
What a fantastic way to use Google Forms! I don’t utilize the quiz feature often enough, but I love that this form has a variety of question types and resources to use with questions, including a reading selection, graph, image, and video.
4. Tactical Pauses
Check out how these teachers are using tactical pauses within group work:
