Weekly Finds

October 7th Weekly Finds

1. Appsmash with Canva

I think I’ve shared my love for Canva on this blog quite a bit 🙂 But I do truly think it’s magical! Here are some wonderful apps you can use in combination with Canva that will make it even more special:

I’ve used YouTube within my recent newsletters and it’s very helpful to have it embedded rather than linked. I’ll have to try Genially, Pear Deck, and Wakelet soon!

2. Student Participation

I am hearing from so many teachers about the apathy issue! Here’s a thread that might help with how to get students participating more in class:

3. Organizing Content in Canvas

I recently discovered the Canvas Queen, Lauren Burlison’s YouTube channel. She has some great content about Canvas, including this part 2 of 4 series on organizing content in Canvas. This part in particular focuses on organizing modules and Burlison shares how she first sets up her Google Drive to match what her modules in Canvas will eventually look like. Those familiar with Google Classroom may appreciate this approach, but even if you don’t have that experience, I appreciated the setup and think it will be beneficial to the teachers in my building!

4. Fractions Practice

Math is by no means my subject area, but I really like the idea of this fraction practice game by Sarah Carter, aka Mathequalslove over on Instagram.

She has more puzzles on her blog!

5. Text Behind an Image

While I will always prefer Canva, I should also give some love to Adobe Creative Cloud Express which does have some really good design tools. Claudio Zavala Jr. knows ALL the best ways to use this tool!
