It’s definitely been a busy few weeks! I will get back to posting regular Weekly Finds each Friday.
1. Digital Notebook in Science
This digital notebook looks similar to the digital notebook templates from SlidesMania with tabs leading to different pages. The entire slide deck uses custom sizing to represent regular paper size at 8.5 x 11. But I really like how these Chemistry activities are set up for interactivity within Google Slides, allowing for online simulations or keeping track of data as part of a lab. The spaces created for students to add information or their lab results looks as if it could have come from an online textbook publisher, it’s designed that well! As someone interested in both pedagogical design and layout design, this hits a lot of good points for me! It could easily be adapted for any content area too!
2. Team Task Organizer
I don’t know how she does it (or where she finds the time!), but Stephanie Howell comes up with some great ideas for structuring your classes. In the below video, you can see how students who are collaborating to complete a project can keep track of all of their tasks, check off when they are complete, and view the status and the timeline for each task. You can access the Team Task Spreadsheet by joining the Gold EDU Google group; it’s free!
3. Google Expeditions Pro
I was so bummed when Google Expeditions closed its doors a few years ago as my school had just bought devices to start doing AR! So this is exciting news! You can create your own virtual tours and share them with other educators, similar to how Google Tour Creator worked.
4. Punctuation Practice
Do your students need some help with punctuation? Use these tips from Eric Curts to set up your activity in Google Docs and automatically remove the capitalization and punctuation from any text selection.
5. Create Pre-Register to Vote Flyers
Calling all high school teachers! Have your students create flyers to encourage students to pre-register to vote! In some states, students can pre-register as early as age 16! With election season right around the corner, you should also make sure your high school seniors who are 18 are registered to vote! Use these flyer templates from Amanda Sandoval and post around your school or community.
