Weekly Finds

July 1 Weekly Finds

1. One-Page Learning

As someone who is really into design and was a layout designer for publications in both high school and college, I just like one-pagers. It’s got the layout of a magazine page or ad and contains information that is concise and to the point; focusing on key highlights or summarizing big concepts, and is very visually pleasing.

This one-pager below, in particular, is really meant for teachers and is a guide for how you can use feedback to help learners move forward on skills from assignments. But you can also create them for use with students to learn about concepts or have students create their own one-pagers about recently learned content. This would be an amazing alternative assessment that can be used at either the end of a unit or the end of a quarter; for an individual or as a group project.

2. Word Lab

Laura Malafarina is a creative writing teacher, who created a new activity to do with her students called Word Lab. I’m all about helping students become better writers and am happy to pass along this thread that she shares detailing how she sets it all up! She even shares a link to the archive of exercises she used this past year.

3. Structure of a Lesson

As a coach, I assist teachers with structuring lessons that integrate technology. That’s why I like this graphic below as a guide or reference for teachers as it shows how to develop a well-thought-out lesson.

4. Canvas Studio Walkthrough

Eddie Small shares a quick walkthrough on Canvas Studio, a quick tool for sharing videos and assessing student learning!

5. Writing Process Checklists

The Literacy Dive over on Instagram shared out how she helps students write with her writing process checklists!

I love how organized and colorful they are and being laminated allows students to use dry erase markers to check off their steps and use the checklists again and again!
