February 18 Weekly Finds

1. Writing Alt Text

This one really grabbed my attention this week:

Writing alt text is really hard

I’m trying to really amp up my accessibility use, but I totally relate to this post! It can be hard! Thankfully, there are some great resources in this thread like this website that shows “What constitutes good alt text”.

2. Make PDFs an editable Google Doc

While I’m not a worksheet fan, I do appreciate the need to annotate PDFs and this would be a great and easy way to do it! I could also see teachers using this as a way to provide guiding questions or comments on an article.

3. Revision Menu

I LOVE this revision menu! It includes one of the best tips I ever received for editing my writing, which was to read it out loud. I often forget a word in a sentence when I type and I find it more often if I read it out loud than if I don’t. Plus, even if you can’t remember grammar rules, if you hear something, you can feel the rhythm is just off.

Stephanie Howell adapted the original to make hers, but I also wanted to include the choice board Lisa Whiston created because I like the idea of letting students select the options they need to work on or know they have trouble with.

4. Google Fonts for Any Era

Here’s a fun one! Check out the different fonts available in Google to be used in projects, timelines, and more!

5. Wordle for Littles

What a great way for younger students to get in on the fun too!
