1. The Value of a Weekly Wrap Up

This article on the importance of providing a weekly wrap up to students may come from the collegiate level, but after the last year and half of virtual and hybrid learning in systems like Canvas and Schoology, its value shouldn’t be wasted on K-12.

Just as including a road map at the beginning of each week orients students to the week and outlines what is expected of them, including a wrap up at the end of the week gives students a sense of what they should have accomplished and how they should prepare for the upcoming week.

I really like this analogy of a road map and while warm-ups and class agendas help students prepare for what’s to come, the wrap up shows students (and parents) where they should be and what they should have completed during the week and helps all stakeholders assess student progress.

2. My Best Lesson Podcast with Mike Brilla, Episode 18

I listened to Mike’s podcast this week for the first time after listening to his other podcast series Six Tips and Tricks from the TOSA (now ended). Episode 18 was entitled My First Week of School and I’m so glad this was the first episode I listened to because I felt it was filled with great ideas and more importantly some thoughts about the first week of school. A great episode to get you thinking about building relationships and putting your students first.

3. 5 Ways to Use Canva in the Classroom

I gave a presentation this week at my school district’s annual Digicamp about Canva for Educators and found this nugget on Twitter the next day. I’ll probably add it to the presentation at some point, but I thought it might be helpful for others using Canva, as well.

4. World History Resources

@MsGreeneEDU shared the below tweet sharing out crowd-sourced history lessons as well as her own lessons.

5. The EduGals Podcast, Episode 56

I recently discovered this Canadian podcast series and really enjoy their perspective! A few terms are different between our countries, but you still get the picture! This episode focused on Setting Up Your Virtual Learning Space and while they use an LMS called Brightspace, it has great reminders about what should be included on your LMS and considerations you should think about as you’re navigating the beginning of the year. I think the best tip they give is to view your course through the eyes of your students! My district uses Canvas and this can be done by turning on student view. You’ll see everything as a student does. Go through it and make sure it’s easy to navigate and anticipate where students might have questions and how you can make it clear for them.
